Jenny Sandoval is a first-generation Latine (they/them) poet based in South Bay, San Diego. They have a bachelor's degree in liberal studies and are passionate about being an educator for the youth. Jenny began writing when they were a child. They immediately became drawn to creative writing and later on as an adult, poetry became their passion. They have written two poetry books, Nectar and Butterfly in the Spring.
Jenny writes poetry to connect with people who come from immigrant households, eldest daughters, those with depression and anxiety, dealing with grief, being an SA survivor, those with disabilities ( Jenny was temporarily disabled), and those who are LGBTQ+. To them, writing is an act of resistance and sharing vulnerable parts of life that aren’t discussed often or treated as taboo topics. They recently got into film photography and have been connecting with this new art form that has helped them spark a new creativeness. Jenny's mother would take many pictures using a disposable camera and by seeing those pictures, Jenny has seen the historical significance of having physical media captured to tell a story from the past.
They hope their poetry and photography inspires you in your creative outlet and reminds us that we are more than just a profit in this capitalistic society. Continue creating, especially in these devastating times we are currently living through.
